The Town of Ashland plans to construct a sidewalk on Caroline Street from Calhoun Street to the Better Med facility. Caroline Street is a well-used pedestrian route between Randolph-Macon College and Route 1. Because Caroline Street is narrow, concerns about safety have been raised in the past. This sidewalk will improve safety for both pedestrians and drivers.
The sidewalk will be constructed on the north side of Caroline Street. The project will also include drainage improvements.
The Town began work on this project on May 8, 2018, but the work was delayed a few weeks later due to the storm damage on Hill Carter Parkway that required the immediate attention of staff and contractors. Work will resume on the Caroline Street Sidewalk project in August.
