What would you like voters to know about you?
I was born and raised in Henrico County and graduated from Henrico High School in 2001. Shortly after graduating, I moved to Ashland. I've been married to my husband Brian since 2010 and we have one daughter attending Hanover County Public Schools, but our cat named Santa's Little Helper is the real star of the family. I work as an office manager for a small document-scanning company right here in Ashland. If I'm not cheering our daughter on at an Ashland Barracudas swim meet, I enjoy reading, having my hands in our garden, creating in the kitchen, jogging around the Town I love, and spending time with my family outdoors.
In April 2015 I started recording Town meetings part-time, I developed a love for local government and a passion to serve my community. I applied and was appointed, as a Town of Ashland Planning Commission member in July 2020, and continue to love working hard for my community.
What characteristics or principles are most important for a member of Ashland's Town Council to possess?
I believe integrity is one of the most important characteristics someone on a governing body should possess. If the citizens can count on their members to be honest, even when not everyone agrees with a decision being made, we can be more confident the decision-making process is being handled ethically, with the Town as a whole in mind.
What is the biggest issue facing the Town of Ashland, and how might you suggest the community/Town address it?
I wouldn't call it an issue, but a big action I will work hard and strive towards is ensuring the town continuously works together and transparently on smart, balanced growth for the quality of life and longevity of the Town of Ashland. I would encourage all citizens to participate in Town meetings so that their voices can be heard.
What three words would you use to describe Ashland?
Welcoming. Supportive. Active.
Why do you want to serve in public office?
I am passionate about an elected body representing their community as a whole. I want to be a voice for the citizens of our Town by listening and advocating on their behalf. I believe democracy lives in local government. I truly care about the people of Ashland and have the willingness to learn every day.
