The notion of service is alive and well in the Town. Eight community members volunteered to fill the Town Council seat that will be vacated by Vice Mayor James Murray as he moves to North Carolina to pursue his education.
Vice Mayor Murray made his announcement on April 4, and Town staff quickly put out a notice seeking applications to fill the Council seat with a deadline of April 30. Eight service minded community members stepped forward, and Town Council interviewed all eight individually on May 16, May 18, and May 30. As required by Section 3.1-E of the Town Charter, the Town Council will hold a closed session on June 20 prior to the regular Council meeting to deliberate, and then vote to choose Vice Mayor Murray’s successor in open meeting.
The individual chosen will be sworn in as a Town Council member at the first meeting in August 2017, and will serve out the remainder of Vice Mayor Murray’s term until June 30, 2018. Please join us in congratulating and thanking these eight community members (listed alphabetically) for volunteering to serve the public:
- Terry (Les) Cook, Jr.
- David Haine
- John Hodges
- Daniel McGraw
- Cedar Reiner
- Nelson Vaughan
- Wayne Weller
- Lynda Wright
