The Ashland Police Department (APD) has been informed of a planned peaceful assembly today (June 3) at 4:00pm at Town Hall. APD is in contact with the local organizers of the event to take all steps necessary to ensure the safe expression of speech and peaceful assembly. The group plans to meet at Town Hall at 4:00pm, have a few speakers, and at 4:10pm, have an eight minute and 26 second moment of silence. The organizers then intend for the group to use public sidewalks to walk east on England Street to gather on the side lawn of the APD building, before walking back along the same route to Town Hall where the organizers plan for the group to disperse. APD staff will join in the walk and will be monitoring intersections and crosswalks to ensure the safety of pedestrians and citizens in the area. We are working with our public safety partners in Hanover County to ensure the safety of participants and our community.
