The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is scheduled to begin the Ashcake Road (Route 657) bridge rehabilitation project over I-95 on Thursday, September 8th. The project, which will extend the lifetime of the bridge, is expected to be complete in late fall 2023.
VDOT will have detours in place. Drivers on I-95 can expect nightly single and double-lane closures in both directions throughout the duration of the project. Limited full detours of I-95 are anticipated between midnight and 4 am for critical bridge activities.
In addition, while the project location is in Hanover County and outside the Town of Ashland's limits, the project will also result in local traffic impacts and route disruptions for residents and visitors accustomed to traveling along Ashcake Road to and from Lewistown Road at I-95, Hanover Airpark, and residential areas in that vicinity.
VDOT held a “pardon our dust” meeting on August 4th to provide information on the project and answer questions from the public. The Town of Ashland will continue to provide updates to residents, business owners, and other impacted parties on our channels as we receive new information from VDOT.
Questions about the project should be directed to Brian Ramsey, P.E., VDOT's area construction engineer, at: Brian.Ramsey@VDOT.Virginia.gov or (804) 704-0019.
